Chapter 9

“Are you sure about this?” Nick asked Connor over the phone the next day.

“Dude, I wasn’t the only one who noticed it. The sexual chemistry between you two was off the charts!”

“She seemed annoyed more than anything with me,” Nick said.

Though he had seen it and felt it too. When he had held Kelly in his arms, when he had hugged her, when she had smiled at him. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen it before. He wanted to hope that she might have feelings for him, but he couldn’t be sure. Which was why he had called Connor for an honest opinion.

“I think she was confused about what was going on. It has to be a bit overwhelming for both of you. And considering how close you two are usually, and how good you are about talking to each other, you both have sucked when it comes to this,” Connor said.

“You’re right. We do need to have a conversation,” he said.

“For everyone’s sake. You two belong together. You two just need to get out of your own heads long enough to see that.”

“What if she doesn’t feel the same way?” Nick asked.

“Dude. As I said, get out of your head! I doubt it. But that’s something you have to figure out on your own. That you have to talk to her about. I hear you're cooking her dinner?” Connor asked.

“How did you find that out?” Nick asked.

“Melissa talked to Kelly this morning and the date tonight came up.”

“Did Kelly call it a date? What did she say?” Nick asked and then immediately regretted it. He sounded like a schoolboy with his first crush.

“I’m calling it a date because that’s what it is. The sooner you realize that the better mentally you will be for what you need to do.”

“What do I need to do?” Nick asked.

“Tell her how you feel. What you want. See if she feels the same way. I think when you do, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised,” Connor said.

“You aren’t going to tell me what she said are you?”

“Nope. I’m not getting involved.”

“Really? You’ve been practically playing my fairy godmother through this whole thing,” Nick said.

Connor laughed. “Maybe, but that would be a fairy godfather thank you very much. Promise me you’ll talk to her. That you two won’t leave the house until you have figured everything out.”

“You got it,” Nick said and his mind immediately thought of how much fun it would be to be in bed with Kelly as they figured things out.

“Good luck,” Connor said and ended the call.

Nick put his phone down and looked around the kitchen. It was in a bit of disarray as he prepared the meal for him and Kelly. He wanted to do something to amaze her. To show her that he did know how to cook. That he could impress a woman if he needed to.

Kelly liked fish so he had settled on some seared salmon with rice seasoned with roasted vegetables, avocado, and cabbage.
